Official 1755 Oil Painting Unveiling
Pictures from Saturdays official unveiling of a 1755 oil painting (by Henry Ellis) of Gunthorpe Ferry, recently acquired by Gunthorpe Parish Council, with assistance from Notts County Council.
The picture returns to Gunthorpe following a lucky 'spot' on ebay. Parish Councillors personally clubbed together, and along with a donation from Notts County Councillor Andy Stewart the necessary money was raised.
Parish Councillor Peter Platten travelled down to Portsmouth to acquire the picture, and after recent restoration the picture was officially unveiled by Nottinghamshire County Council Chairman Keith Walker to residents before going on long term loan to Gunthorpe School, where it will be seen for generations to come.
Artwork from pupils of Gunthorpe C of E primary school themed on the river Trent was also on display, together with a masterclass by a local artist
Thanks to Jo from Biondis for hosting the event and all that attended.
