Gunthorpe FC through to the next round of the Cup

It was business as usual for Gunthorpe FC in the Notts Cup on 30th October as goals from Mark Scotton and Ben Tuxford booked a place in the next round.

On a chilly night under the floodlights away at Linford Nelson, it was Ben and Mark's tenacity up front that gave the opponents' defence a torrid time. They were heavily reliant on their goalkeeper to sweep behind the back line to prevent a goal. However, after 20 mins, Adam Meakin placed a fine through-ball into the path of Mark on the edge of the area. He made no mistake in slotting the ball past the goalkeeper in a 1-on-1 situation after some good trickery.

The second half started poorly and wasn't the best game to watch, with Linford Nelson being gifted a few more chances- their pacey strikers causing havoc from long balls. Good work from Ben ensured that the game was put beyond doubt, after turning well on the ball to shake off his man, advancing with the ball and slotting it home from inside the area. The closest the opposition came to scoring was a fine Ronaldo-style free kick which dipped over the wall and hit the bar... with Parky claming he had it covered.

Good game, nice pitch, a bit cold, no man of the match. Another cup game this Sunday, with a visit from RHP Reserves, who are bound to want to avenge their 5-1 beating earlier this season.
