Variety Night 18th October 2008
Arrangements are now being finalised for the Music Variety Night to be held at Gunthorpe Village Hall on Saturday 18th October 2008.
For your entertainment we have a Barbershop quartet featuring, Pete Dowling, Martin Long, Bob Greggs and Paul Jeffery.
Shelby Sutton brings along a Jazz ensemble ‘8 Ball Jazz' playing well know standards and show hits.
Will and Tom Jeffery will be playing a collection of acoustic songs from the 50s to present day.
We have a visitor from Lowdham, Heather Trueman who will probably be singing and playing her saxophone. I say probably because it's a bit of a mystery what she will end up doing?!
Ex Gunthorpian, Ray Hopkinson performs with his son as the duo Lambo-Knox playing electric and acoustic classic hits.
All hosted by our very own Kate Hammett
The event is a ‘bring your own drinks and nibbles' night. So it should be a cheap night out
Tickets are £7.50 and can be ordered from Paul Jeffery on 0115 9664193. OR Trish Greggs on 0115 9663317
(One discounted ticket of £6.75 can be claimed by 200 club members. The ticket would not be transferable at that price but could be used by another if the extra 75p was paid on the night.)
An Appeal to all the Women of Gunthorpe
Gunthorpe Women's Institute will be 90 years old in 2009, and at present our membership is only 19. Current members are getting older and finding it increasingly more difficult to continue with so few of us. We feel that if we don't attract some new members we will be unable to be viable much longer. With a larger membership we could attract a better quality speaker for our monthly meeting. Speakers of good quality come at a high price. With our present membership we can ill afford them.
Today's women have a very different lifestyle from previous generations often juggling children and families with careers and jobs. So whether you are a mother with children, a grandmother, career woman, a single parent, retired or a mixture of all of these WE NEED YOU. In return we can offer you Friendship, Fun and Education. So if any of you out there can come and swell our numbers, we feel we could have a good interesting group and continue for many years to come.
We are not all Jam and Jerusalem and are very open to change, in fact present members would welcome it. So get together come and join us, bring your ideas and enthusiasm we will be delighted to see you all.
We meet in the village hall on the third Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm, who knows you may even enjoy it. They did it in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight and now claim to be the largest institute in England ! So come on pick up the challenge can we do the same in Gunthorpe?
